I’m currently working to improve my public speaking, and I recently gave a talk on Digital Justice at Product Management Festival in Zurich. Afterwards, I asked a few people for some honest feedback, and jotted down how I felt I’d done. So this post is really a mini-retrospective with me reflecting on what went well and what I could do better next time.

Last Tuesday I felt a bit like Gwyneth Paltrow. This wasn’t because I had a sudden hankering for colonic irrigation or conscious uncoupling. Rather, I felt a bit like her character in the film Sliding Doors, in which the difference between missing and catching a tube train creates two parallel, but very different paths through the rest of the story.
Which is better for making product decisions: guesswork or user feedback?
Albert Einstein once said that anyone can make something complex, but only a genius can make something simple. Imagine if you could read your user’s minds and understand what they really think about your product.

The first Product Management Festival took place in Zürich this week, bringing together product people from across Europe, as well as some from farther afield: the US, China, Russia and Australia. There were laughs, drama and conflict (mainly between panellists, I hasten to add), but thankfully no actual fist-fights.
